Iberia Velázquez Lounge Review (MAD Terminal 4S)
Opening hours: 06:00–01:00
Access: Iberia Business Class, Oneworld Business Class + eligible oneworld status, plus LATAM Business Class and Boliviana de Aviación (BoA) Business Class passengers (on qualifying itineraries)
Location: Terminal 4S (non-Schengen departures) — inside the duty-free area, right in the middle of T4S
If you’re flying long-haul out of Madrid-Barajas Terminal 4S, Iberia’s Velázquez Lounge is the lounge you want. It’s big, bright, and surprisingly “easy” even during peak hours, because there’s simply so much space. Add excellent food and some of the best apron views you’ll find in Europe, and it’s no surprise this is one of my favorite lounges on the continent. Also check out Iberia’s Dalí Lounge in T4!

Layout & Atmosphere
Velázquez feels like a proper flagship hub lounge: open, modern, and designed to handle the big non-Schengen departure waves without turning into a stressful scramble for seats. The layout is straightforward and practical — you can grab food, settle into a comfortable seating zone, or walk around until you find the exact vibe you want.
The standout feature is the view. This lounge gives you amazing sightlines over Terminal 4S, and you get a constant show of traffic and movement outside. If you enjoy airports and aviation, it’s genuinely entertaining — not just “waiting.”
Best seats & comfort tips
- If you want the full experience, prioritize window-side seating for the apron views.
- If the first area you see looks busy, walk deeper — this lounge is large, and you’ll often find better seating just a bit further in.
- Even at peak times, Velázquez usually avoids that “everything is taken” feeling that ruins many European lounges.

Food & Drinks
This is one of the lounge’s superpowers: space. It’s genuinely spacious, and that matters more than people think. The food is really good here — easily a step above the average European Business Class lounge. You can treat it as a real pre-flight meal stop, not just a snack room. The buffet setup is designed for volume, but it still feels well put together, with enough variety to work whether you want something light or you’re properly hungry.
What I like most is that Velázquez delivers consistency: even when it’s busy, the offering generally holds up, and the lounge still feels like a premium experience.
My quick take: if you have time, arrive a bit earlier and eat properly here — it’s one of the lounge’s best strengths and one of the main reasons I rate it among my favorites in Europe.

Facilities
This is a long-haul lounge, so it’s built around the basics that matter before a big flight:
- Showers (great for refreshing before overnight flights or after a long connection)
- Nap room
- Business Center for meetings
- Kids area
- Wi-Fi (good for work, browsing, and uploading)
- A generally solid “recharge” setup that fits a hub lounge
If you’re planning to shower during peak hours, it’s smart to ask early so you don’t get stuck waiting.

Verdict
The Iberia Velázquez Lounge in Madrid T4S is one of the strongest premium lounges in Europe thanks to three things: space, views, and food. It’s the kind of lounge that can be busy and still feel enjoyable — which is rare in a major hub.
Who should use it:
- oneworld Business Class flyers departing from MAD Terminal 4S
- LATAM Business Class and BoA Business Class passengers
- Anyone who values a proper meal + incredible airport views
Who should skip it:
- If your flight is already boarding and you’re tight on time
- If you only enjoy tiny, silent lounges (Velázquez is a big hub lounge — comfortable, but not “library quiet”)
