Iberia vs KLM Business Class — Which Airline Is Best to Latin America? (2025)

Airline Comparison

Flying between Europe and Latin America, two airlines stand out as frequent favorites: KLM and Iberia. Both airlines offer strong long-haul Business Class products, reliable networks, and loyal followings—but they deliver very different experiences. KLM is known for its global reach and excellent connections through Amsterdam, serving both major cities and smaller destinations across Europe and the Americas. Iberia, meanwhile, operates one of the strongest Europe–Latin America networks in the world, often being the first choice for passengers traveling to Spanish-speaking destinations.

So when planning a long-haul flight to or from Latin America, it’s completely normal to ask:
Which Business Class is better—KLM or Iberia?
Which has the best seats? Which offers better food, service, comfort, value, and onboard experience?

I’ve flown both airlines in long-haul Business Class, including KLM’s Boeing 777 and Iberia’s A350 and A330 Business Class, and in this comparison I’ll break down the real differences. If you’re choosing between the two for your next trip, this review will help you decide which airline fits your travel style best.

🏆 Overall Winner: Iberia

Both airlines offer genuinely excellent long-haul Business Class products — you’ll have a great flight on either one. But looking at cabin comfort, privacy, dining quality, entertainment, lounge experience, and overall value for money, Iberia comes out slightly ahead. Its cabin feels more luxurious, the lounge experience in Madrid is outstanding, the entertainment is sharper, and fares are often more competitive on Latin America routes.

KLM remains a fantastic choice, though, with friendly service, beautiful Dutch branding, reliable performance, and a solid onboard experience.

Iberia also does a great job with its bedding and pillow quality. The mattress cover, blanket, and large pillow make the bed feel genuinely cozy, which is exactly what you want on a long-haul flight to or from Latin America.

Overall, Iberia’s new Business Class seat is private, modern, well-equipped, and extremely comfortable—a massive upgrade from older Iberia cabins and easily competitive with the best European business class products.

KLM:

KLM’s latest Business Class cabin feels fresh, modern, and distinctly KLM, with its signature light-blue tones and clean Scandinavian-inspired design. The layout features 35 individual Business Class suites arranged in a 1–2–1 reverse herringbone configuration, so every passenger enjoys direct aisle access and excellent personal space.

The cabin uses the Jamco Venture seat, upgraded with sliding privacy doors to create a truly enclosed suite experience. Each seat is 20 inches wide and reclines into a fully flat bed measuring 6’6” (78 inches), offering plenty of space to stretch out on long-haul flights. The seat design feels practical and thoughtfully engineered, with smart storage areas, well-placed surfaces, and subtle mood lighting that creates a calming atmosphere.

For travelers seeking maximum privacy and a quieter environment, the best place to sit is toward the back of the Business Class cabin. Rows 8 and 9 are located in their own smaller “mini-cabin,” which feels more exclusive and peaceful compared to the main section.

KLM scores highly when it comes to modern technology and connectivity. Each seat is equipped with USB-A, USB-C, and universal AC power outlets, along with wireless charging, making it incredibly easy to keep devices powered throughout the flight.

In bed mode, the seat provides a long, comfortable sleeping surface suitable for overnight flights. The bedding is decent, though not overly luxurious— the pillow feels a little soft and basic, while the duvet is comfortable but fairly standard. Still, the bed itself is spacious and supportive, making it a very good environment for getting real rest in the air.

Overall, KLM’s new Business Class cabin is stylish, private, well-designed, and extremely comfortable, combining modern aesthetics with great functionality and excellent onboard tech.

KLM 777 Business Class Suite

Winner: Iberia

Both airlines offer excellent Business Class cabins with modern suites, direct aisle access, and fully flat beds—but they each deliver comfort in slightly different ways.

KLM’s seat is technically a little longer in bed mode, edging ahead on pure bed length. However, the difference isn’t dramatic, and most travelers won’t notice it unless they are very tall. Where Iberia pulls ahead is in overall luxury feel, privacy, and comfort. The cabin looks more premium and elegant, the suite door feels more substantial, and the space feels more enclosed and personal. Iberia also provides better bedding, with a noticeably cozier pillow and more comfortable sleep setup.

So unless you’re extremely tall and absolutely need every extra centimeter of bed length, Iberia offers the more luxurious, private, and comfortable Business Class seat overall, making it the winner in this category.

Iberia:

Iberia delivers a genuinely enjoyable Business Class dining experience, with a service style that feels elegant yet relaxed. As soon as you board, you’re welcomed with a choice of orange juice, water, or cava, along with a printed menu outlining the full meal service. The menu typically includes two starters, three main course options, and three desserts, plus a selection of snacks available mid-flight and two choices for the pre-landing meal.

About 45 minutes after takeoff, the formal service begins with a hot towel, followed shortly by a beautifully presented appetizer tray featuring nuts, olives, cheese, and your choice of drink. Dinner itself is impressive: portions are generous, the presentation is refined, and the flavors are genuinely delicious—not just “good for airplane food,” but genuinely very enjoyable. After the main meal, dessert, coffee, and dark chocolate are offered to round things off.

Iberia’s wine program is another highlight, offering a solid selection with one cava, two white wines, and three red wines, often showcasing Spanish labels, which fits perfectly with the airline’s identity. A small detail I absolutely love: instead of only offering butter with the bread, Iberia also provides high-quality extra virgin olive oil, which feels authentic and premium.

The only real downside is the pre-landing meal, which can feel a bit small compared to other airlines. Still, overall, Iberia does extremely well here. The food tastes great, feels thoughtfully curated, and the service style is warm, professional, and consistent. For Business Class dining, Iberia performs very strongly.

KLM:

KLM offers a welcoming and well-structured Business Class dining experience, with a service style that feels friendly, distinctly Dutch, and pleasantly relaxed. During boarding, passengers are greeted with a choice of orange juice, water, champagne, or even beer, along with a printed menu outlining the meal service. The menu typically includes two starters, three main courses, and two desserts, along with snacks available mid-flight and two options for the pre-landing meal.

Around one hour after takeoff, the service begins with a hot towel, followed by a nicely presented appetizer featuring nuts and classic Dutch gouda cheese, accompanied by your preferred drink. Dinner itself is generally very tasty. While presentation is sometimes a bit simpler visually than some premium carriers, the flavors are good, portions are reasonable, and the overall experience is enjoyable. The meal is completed with dessert, coffee, and additional drinks.

KLM’s wine selection is solid as well, usually offering three white wines and two red wines, with thoughtful choices that pair well with the dishes served onboard. Service from the crew is typically warm, personable, and consistent, which really helps create a positive dining atmosphere.

One of KLM’s biggest strengths is its strong Dutch identity throughout the dining experience. The plating, design elements, and cutlery feature beautiful Delft-style details, adding character and making the meal feel memorable and uniquely “KLM” rather than generic airline catering.

Overall, KLM’s Business Class dining may not always look like fine dining, but it is reliably tasty, well thought out, and served with personality and care, making it a genuinely enjoyable experience on long-haul flights.

Winner: Iberia

This is a genuinely tight category, because both airlines do a very good job, but in slightly different ways.

KLM impresses with its warm, friendly service style, beautifully branded presentation, and charming Dutch identity in the plating, cutlery, and design details. Their pre-landing meal is more generous, and the overall dining experience is consistently enjoyable and nicely executed.

However, Iberia takes the edge thanks to a dining experience that feels a little more premium overall, with dishes that often taste fresher and feel more restaurant-quality. Iberia’s menu showcases Spanish culinary identity brilliantly—you really feel like you’re flying a Spanish airline, with olive oil, Spanish wines, regional ingredients, and authentic flavors. It’s elegant, delicious, and thoughtfully curated.

So while both airlines deliver an excellent Business Class meal service and KLM remains a very enjoyable choice, Iberia offers the slightly stronger and more memorable dining experience, making it the winner in this category.

Iberia:

Iberia’s Business Class amenity kit is practical and well thought out, offering everything you need for a long-haul flight. Inside you’ll find eye shades, socks, a toothbrush and toothpaste, hand cream, and lip balm. It’s fairly standard compared to other major airlines, but the quality is good and it covers all the essentials without feeling overly basic.

When it comes to inflight entertainment, Iberia performs very well. Each seat is equipped with a large 18-inch 4K Ultra HD touchscreen display, which looks sharp, modern, and responsive. The system includes a strong variety of movies, TV shows, documentaries, and music. What really stands out is the content selection: in addition to a good range of international titles, Iberia offers a fantastic library of Spanish and Latin American entertainment, making it an excellent option for Spanish-speaking travelers and anyone interested in regional cinema.

On the connectivity side, Iberia offers free messaging, which is great for staying in touch with family and friends during the flight. Full WiFi is also available for purchase, costing around €20 for the entire flight, which is reasonable for a long-haul service and works well enough for browsing, email, and light internet use.

Overall, Iberia delivers a solid and enjoyable onboard experience in this category, with a good amenity kit, excellent screen quality, strong Spanish and Latin American entertainment selection, and reliable connectivity options.

KLM:

KLM’s Business Class amenity kit is nicely presented and includes everything you’d expect for a long-haul flight. Inside, you’ll find eye shades, socks, a toothbrush and toothpaste, hand cream, and lip balm. It’s fairly standard in terms of contents, but it’s practical, good quality, and does the job well. KLM regularly refreshes the design of its amenity kits too, which adds a bit of fun and collectability to the experience.

In terms of inflight entertainment, KLM offers a large 18-inch HD touchscreen with a good selection of movies, TV series, documentaries, and kids’ programs. The interface is easy to use and the selection is broad enough to comfortably get you through a long-haul journey, even if it doesn’t feel quite as regionally curated as some competitors.

For connectivity, KLM offers free messaging, allowing passengers to stay connected with basic chat apps during the flight. Full WiFi is available for purchase at around €30 for the entire flight, which is slightly on the higher side compared to some airlines, but still reasonable for long-haul travel. Performance is generally good for browsing, email, and social media.

Overall, KLM provides a solid and reliable onboard experience in this category, with a practical amenity kit, a strong entertainment system, and dependable WiFi options to stay connected in the air.

KLM Business Class – Entertainment system
KLM Business Class – Entertainment system

Winner: Iberia

This is another category where both airlines perform well, but Iberia takes a narrow win thanks to a few meaningful advantages. The amenity kits on both airlines are fairly similar and cover the basics well, so there’s no huge difference there. Where Iberia really pulls ahead is in entertainment and connectivity.

Iberia’s 4K Ultra HD screen looks sharper and more modern than KLM’s HD display, and the entertainment library feels especially well curated for this route. In addition to a strong international selection, Iberia offers an excellent range of Spanish and Latin American movies and TV shows, which is a real plus when flying to or from Latin America.

On top of that, Iberia’s WiFi is slightly better value, with a lower full-flight price while still offering free messaging and reliable performance. KLM offers good WiFi too, but it is typically a bit more expensive.

So while both airlines provide a solid onboard experience in this category, Iberia edges ahead with its sharper screen, stronger regional content, and cheaper WiFi, making it the winner here—though, once again, the difference isn’t massive.

Iberia:

Iberia’s hub at Madrid-Barajas Airport (MAD) offers one of the most distinctive airport experiences in Europe. For many, it’s one of the most architecturally beautiful airports in the world, with its warm wood ceilings, bright natural light, and stylish modern design. Others argue that it involves a lot of walking — and it’s true that the terminal layout can mean some long distances. Personally, I don’t mind it at all when the surroundings look this good.

Business Class passengers benefit from dedicated check-in counters, which are generally efficient and quick to get through. For long-haul flights, departures take place from Terminal 4S, meaning passengers must transfer from the main Terminal 4 via the airport train, followed by passport control. The whole process normally takes around 30 minutes, so it’s not stressful, but something worth factoring into your journey time.

Because the terminal is long and narrow, your gate location can sometimes mean a bit of a walk, but the atmosphere and design make it a pleasant one.

Velázquez Lounge

Iberia Business Class passengers have access to the Velázquez Lounge, and it is genuinely one of the best Business Class lounges in Europe. Even during busy peak hours, it usually isn’t too difficult to find a comfortable place to sit. The lounge offers:

  • Excellent food selection
  • Beautiful runway views
  • Bar area
  • Rest areas
  • Showers

It feels spacious, premium, and very well maintained — the perfect place to relax before a long flight.

Overall, Iberia’s ground experience in Madrid combines efficiency with style. It’s visually impressive, practical enough, and the lounge offering is outstanding.

KLM:

Amsterdam Schiphol is an iconic European airport, and for many travelers—myself included—it carries a sense of nostalgia and character. I’ve been flying through Schiphol since I was a kid, and it still remains one of my favorite major hubs. For Business Class passengers, KLM offers dedicated check-in counters, which usually make the departure process smooth and efficient. Distances at Schiphol can vary depending on your gate, but generally they are very manageable compared to many other large airports.

Amsterdam Airport (AMS)
Amsterdam Airport (AMS)

KLM’s flagship Crown Lounge is one of the most recognizable Business Class lounges in Europe. As soon as you enter, you’re greeted by the sight of hundreds of iconic Delft Blue miniature houses, instantly reinforcing that unmistakable KLM identity. The lounge itself is visually impressive, modern, and thoughtfully designed, with multiple seating zones, a bar, and quiet areas.

The food selection is decent, offering a good range of hot and cold dishes, snacks, and drinks. There are also showers available, a full bar, and even a restaurant area, although dining there comes at an additional cost.

The main drawback of the Crown Lounge is its popularity. It is often very crowded, especially during peak hours, and finding a seat can sometimes be a challenge. Another slight disappointment is the limited views of the aircraft, which aviation fans may miss in a lounge of this scale.

Overall, Schiphol provides a pleasant and efficient ground experience, and while the Crown Lounge is visually stunning and full of character, it can feel busy and less relaxing than you might hope during peak travel times.

Winner: Iberia

Both Amsterdam Schiphol and Madrid Barajas offer strong ground experiences, but Iberia takes the win here, largely thanks to its outstanding lounge offering. The Velázquez Lounge in Madrid is spacious, comfortable, rarely feels overwhelming even at peak times, and delivers excellent food, great amenities, and stunning runway views. Combined with the beautiful design of Terminal 4S, it creates a premium and genuinely enjoyable pre-flight experience.

KLM’s Crown Lounge in Amsterdam is visually impressive and full of character, and Schiphol remains one of my favorite airports with plenty of charm and convenience. However, the lounge is often extremely busy, seating can be difficult to find, and aircraft views are limited, which slightly takes away from the experience.

So while Amsterdam is still a fantastic airport and KLM offers a solid ground product, Iberia’s lounge quality and overall premium atmosphere in Madrid make it the stronger choice in this category.

Winner: Iberia

When it comes to price and overall value for money, Iberia takes a clear win. One of the biggest reasons is simple economics. Madrid has significantly more competition on long-haul routes to Latin America than Amsterdam does. On many routes—including Lima—multiple airlines operate daily flights from Madrid, while Amsterdam is often served exclusively by KLM. More competition generally means lower fares, while monopoly routes tend to push prices higher.

Another important factor is fare structure. On KLM, the lowest Business Class fares do not include lounge access, which is a surprising limitation for a premium cabin product. Iberia, on the other hand, includes lounge access as standard, which immediately adds more value.

To give a real-world example: for these exact flights, I paid around €1,100 one-way for KLM, but that price was only possible because I started my journey in Madrid and connected via Amsterdam. Had I booked the same flight directly from Amsterdam, the price would have been roughly double. Meanwhile, my direct Iberia Business Class flight from Madrid to Lima cost €1,085, meaning it was cheaper, quicker, and offered a similarly premium experience.

So whether your Business Class ticket costs €1,000 or €2,000+, both airlines deliver a true premium product — but in terms of pure value for money, Iberia simply gives you more for what you pay.

Overall Winner: Iberia (But You Can’t Really Go Wrong)

This comparison has been incredibly close from start to finish, because both Iberia and KLM offer genuinely strong long-haul Business Class experiences. You get comfortable suites, flat-bed seats, dedicated lounges, solid dining, entertainment, WiFi, and warm service on both airlines. No matter which one you choose, you’re in for a premium, comfortable, and enjoyable flight across the Atlantic.

However, looking at all categories together — cabin design and privacy, dining quality, entertainment, lounge experience, and overall value for moneyIberia comes out slightly ahead. Its Business Class cabin feels a touch more luxurious and private, the dining experience has a wonderfully authentic Spanish identity, the entertainment system is sharper with excellent regional content, and the Madrid ground experience, especially with the Velázquez Lounge, is outstanding. Add generally more competitive pricing, and Iberia edges into the lead.

That said, KLM remains an excellent choice. The new cabin looks great, the onboard branding and Dutch charm are fantastic, the crew are consistently friendly, and the airline offers strong connectivity and reliability through Amsterdam. If you love KLM or prefer Schiphol as a hub, you will still have a fantastic journey.

So while Iberia narrowly takes the overall win in this comparison, the truth is simple: choose either airline and you’ll have a great Business Class flight to or from Latin America.
